On Monday 28th May, we will be adding new hosts in the Polaris data centre to the GPFS cluster. The goal is to improve GPFS performance, reliability and resilience to extreme file system load spikes. The work will be performed between 10:00 and 16:00. We anticipate that there will be no significant disruptions to GPFS services due to this work.
In the unlikely event of problems, there could be disruptions to the following:
- GPFS file system access in Polaris could be affected, disrupting file access for HPC clusters, NeCTAR instances and access services such as QRIScloud Nextcloud and the SSH machines.
- The UQ ITS cache (used by UQ RDM services), and other UQ caches could be affected. Users of these caches could experience I/O errors when attempting to access files that are not cached locally.
There is no risk of data loss by the GPFS storage infrastructure due to this work.
