Advice: QRIScloud HSM outage - 2017-01-30 - resolved


We are experiencing issues with the power supplies for the tape library system that underlies the QRIScloud HSM system in Polaris.  This has the following effects:

  • Replication of files to tape will not be working.  New files will remain in disk-only or migrating state until the tape library comes online.
  • Retrieval of "offline" files from tape (in Tier3 collections) will block the I/O operation until the tape library comes online.

The hardware vendors and data centre engineers are investigating the problem.

We do not anticipate that there will be any loss of data that is currently stored on tape.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this outage.

UPDATE - 2017-01-30 17:00 - Investigations to date have ascertained that it is not a problem with data centre power circuits. The issue has been escalated to the vendor for the tape library to diagnose the problem.

UPDATE - 2017-01-31 19:20 - The tape library has been brought back into service. Retrieval of files from tape may be slower than normal for a period while the backlog of replication is processed.
