Advice: Ceph fileserver maintenance for Euramoo: 2017-01-23

On Monday 23rd January, we will be performing essential upgrades on the Ceph fileservers that hold the Euramoo scratch ($TMPDIR) directories.  This work will be performed while the system is in normal operation to avoid user disruption.

We have performed the same upgrades on a number of other QRIScloud Ceph fileservers without any incidents, and we do not anticipate any in this case. However, Euramoo users should be aware that there is a small risk that this essential work might disrupt running jobs.

Users do not need to take any special precautions.  However, we remind you that there are no backups for Euramoo's "/home" and "/30days" file systems, and that you should be making your own arrangements to keep adequate backups of valuable data elsewhere.

UPDATE - 2017-01-23 - 15:00 - The upgrade has been postponed until tomorrow due to staff sickness.

UPDATE - 2017-01-24 - 14:15 - The upgrade is happening now.

UPDATE - 2017-01-24 - The upgrades were completed without incident.
